February 23rd, 2015 In Math

There will be no Problem of the Week this week, to allow students the opportunity to catch up on any work from the past 2 weeks.
This week we are working with multiplying decimals and moving on to fractions.

Week Of February 17th, 2015

This week in math we are continuing our work with percents and decimals.  Please check out the Problem of the Week.

Two sports items are purchased at a store.  Calculate the cost of the items and find the amount saved, the sale price, the amount of tax and the total amount for each item if there is a discount of 10% and a tax of 13%.  Round each answer to the nearest hundredth.

Basketball Cost $18.50
Soccer Ball $28.00

If Bob the salesperson gets a 4% commission of the final price of the things that he sold.  What is his commission from this sale. 

CHALLENGE:  At the end of his shift Bob sold 5 basketballs and 7 soccer balls.  How much commission does he make?

Mr. Jones owns a convenience store.  He bought a box of 144 chocolate bars for $72.00 from his wholesaler.  He marks them up by 50%.  How much does each chocolate bar sell for?

CHALLENGE:  If Rohaan bought one (1) bar from Mr. Jones and paid 13% tax, how much will Rohaan pay all together for one bar?
