LITERACY Update:  We are currently working on creating amazing hamburger paragraphs and making reading connections.  A hamburger paragraph involved a topic sentence, 2-3 supporting details sentences and a conclusion sentence.  In reading we are trying to make text-to-self, media, world and text-to-text connections while reading.
MATH:  In math we just finished working on collecting, interpreting and representing data.  We surveyed classmates and presented our findings through graphs and observations.
We have moved on to representing, comparing and ordering numbers, using place value.  Check out this song to help with place value.

HEALTH:  We are discussing a variety of ways to maintain personal safety in the real world (including online and anti bullying messages).  We will will be creating our own commercials to demonstrate our knowledge of personal safety.

KITCHI Meeting

On THURSDAY, March 9th, 2017 please make every effort to attend our GRADE 4 CAMP KITCHI meeting in the Tay Shores Library at 7:00 PM.

ANGLES

We are learning about ANGLES in math this week.  An ACUTE angle can be found with a barely open door and book, a small slice of pie and pizza.  An OBTUSE angle can be found in a vary open door and book and an open pizza box.  A RIGHT angle or 90 degree angle can be found in almost everything!  Corners of desks, walls, floor tiles and anywhere a line meets up with another line in a point is a right angle.
Here are some videos we have been watching to help us understand angles.

Week of January 16th UPDATE

We are officially back and at it in our portable!  I hope that everyone had a wonderful break and we are all ready to get hit the ground running at school again.
LITERACY
In literacy we will be working with a new reading strategy of INFERRING (making an educated guess while we read).  We will be working towards backing up our inferences about a text with evidence from the text selection.  Some of our students in class will be writing CASI (a reading competency test) again this month, while other will continue to receive benchmark scores.  Our focus for the next few weeks in WRITING will be to write to inform our readers, in particular about how to complete a procedure.  In ORAL LANGUAGE we will be starting to discuss speeches by the end of January.  We will be partnered with a Grade 6 class from Wyevale Central Public School to hear some of their speeches and give feedback along the way.  In MEDIA studies we continue to discuss media in our lives and how we can become more educated media consumers.  As always keep reading daily.  Better readers make better writers!
MATH
Our math classes for the next few weeks will revolve around multiplying and dividing and then lead into exploring area and perimeter.  There are several links in our Google Classroom to help you practice your multiplication and division skills.
