FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 16th
We were one of a very limited number of schools in our entire board that was selected to enjoy a day of indigenous art and experiences within our school!  On Friday, we will enjoy instruction in drawing, drumming and dancing all day with a very talented group of individuals from local colleges.

Report cards will go home on Friday and I am so pleased with the students academic work this term!  Please continue to talk about school with your child at home.  Reading and multiplication practice is always a great idea to work on at home.

Wye Marsh
Last Friday, February 9th we experienced an all day outdoor education program at the Wye Marsh.  What a wonderful day and I was very proud of the class for their manners and knowledge demonstrated throughout the day.  This class constantly amazes me with their ability to apply in class learning to the real world.  We did assignments on TORPOR prior to our excursion and we enjoyed snowshoeing and Bannock making, as well as bird watching.  Please find the recipe attached for those interested in trying this at home.  We have one more in class visit with Jennifer from the Wye MArsh to wrap up our winter outdoor education experience supported and paid for by the Simcoe COunty Board of Education.

BANNOCK
4 cups flour
½ cup sugar
2 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
2 tsp cinnamon
½ cup shortening
1-2 cups water
Makes approximately 40 pieces and cook over the fire.

WHERE ARE WE GOING
MATH - We are working on multiplication of bigger numbers, division and 3D geometry.  At home you can always work on the multiplication facts.
LITERACY - Reading at home should be happening every day.  We are working on making predictions (based on what we have read already) and inferences (based on what we know and can make an educated guess about).  Writing we will look at newspapers and comics and attempt to write our own comics.
SCIENCE - Grade 5 students will explore states of matter and Grade 4 students will be looking at rocks and minerals.
