As a first phase of offering educational support for students and families while schools are closed, the SCDSB is asking that principals/teachers direct students and families to the Learn at Home website. The site contains resources for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12, and is available on the Ministry of Education website at www.ontario.ca/page/learn-at-home.
I have personally used the mPower website with my own student at home and find it to be a great game-type of math experience for students in Grade K-6. mPower is easy to set up an account and it is a fun way to expose your child to all strands in math. mPower website

While at Home - March 23rd, 2020
To my wonderful students I miss you already! I hope that you and your families are feeling well and are caring for each other.
In the coming days I will attach some ideas for parents and students to consider as at home learning. This is NOT a requirement but merely suggestions if you are looking for something to do.
In the mean time please take care of each other! Have fun, read, write for fun, play, go outside and be kind to your parents and siblings. Be creative!
Ask if you can prepare a simple meal for your family! Bake! Figure out the math if you had to double a favourite recipe. Have REAL conversations with the people around you. Ask questions and listen to those answers from the people you have close to you. Learn proper telephone etiquette (actually talking on the telephone). Write a letter and mail it!

While at Home
Some parents have asked what their child could do at home while we are off for March Break and the closing of our schools for 2 weeks after March Break.
Please note that I will not provide work for the students, however if you would like to have suggestions for work to practice - please see below.
MATH - we are working on multiplication of larger numbers (ie. 3 digit numbers X single and double digits, 2 X 2 digit multiplication).
Math PLayground has several grade specific and skill specific games to play at home. Also on our Google classroom (from the fall) there are several math games and website listed.
LITERACY - Read, Read, Read and ask your child for an oral summary of what they read
- Write about anything that interests your child
Thank you for your support!
